    Description

    Here is a rare CDV (carte-de-visite) of Benjamin Flint King of Massachusetts as a First Lieutenant in the 89th United States Colored Troops (USCT) taken in 1864 by photographers Brooks & Blauvelt of Port Hudson, Louisiana.  It's a 3/4 up view of Lt. King in his uniform with sash, belt and his hand on his sword hanging at his side.  Signed on the back "B.Flint King, Lt. 89 USTC".  Some highlights from his career:
    Graduated from Harvard University in the class of 1852
    Enlisted as a Private in the 44th Massachusetts Volunteer Militia in September 1862 and served with that outfit through North Carolina including the siege of Wilmington, mustering out 18, June 1863
    Commissioned as First Lieutenant 18th USCT December 7, 1863
    Consolidated and re-designated as the 89th USCT in May 1864 on the Gulf Coast of Louisiana where King was detailed as Provost-Marshal. Served with the regiment until mustering out 10, August of 1864
    Died at Boston 24, January 1868
    Condition is excellent.  Clarity and color is good, signature and ink excellent.  Plastic case and service record accompany the CDV as shown.
