    CHARLES STUART NORTON (b.1836-d.1911)
    A U.S.NAVY LT. COMMANDER during the Civil War on
    the blockade of Charleston, South Carolina
    , the
    Potomac Flotilla
    , and at
    Hampton Roads, Virginia 1861-1862
    . He also participated in several engagements; at the
    Battle of Port Royal, SC; in the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron, 1862-1864
    ; and
    West Gulf Blockading Squadron, 1864-5
    . After the Civil War, he commanded several vessels and served on the Board of Inspection and Survey. He was promoted to Rear-Admiral Commanding the South Atlantic Station from 1894-1896, and was retired as a Rear Admiral during the Spanish American War!
