    Description

RARE CIVIL WAR TINTYPE IN GILT COPPER FRAME W/ FLAGS, SHIELDS & CANNONS - CIRCA 1863
    Case measures approximately 3 3/4" by 3 1/4"
This tintype photograph of a distinguished gentleman in a top hot - possibly a soldier although not in uniform - is housed in a fantastic case with an  exquisitely detailed gilt pro-Union frame.  The gilt frame reads at the top "Union" between two stars and stripes shields.  It also reads at the bottom "Union" on one cannon and "76"  on another cannon.
In pencil, underneath the photo, is what I believe is the name and address of the person in the photograph.  I have unsuccessfully tried to make out the writing. It appears that the address is somewhere in New Jersey or New York.
In excellent condition with the exception that the lid to the case is missing.  There is wear commensurate with age.
