    Description

    Private John Rath served with Company B, raised in  from Cedar Falls, of the  31st Iowa, an Eastern Iowa  unit   with service incl the Battles of Vicksburg, Arkansas, Missionary Ridge and the Atlanta Campaign. An Original  Civil War CDV  waistview photo of Rath wearing a 9 button jacket with a fine view of his large 15th Army Corp  diamond shape badge with affixed  cartridge box emblem. John Rath survived the War  and his brother founded the Rath Packing Company of nearby Waterloo Iowa .  An exc image, pencil inscr on reverse  "Rath".  The photo was taken in June , 1865 when the unit was mustered out. The Photo imprint is by . Louisville, Kentucky photographers, Campbell & Ecker. Minor edge wear, Overall VG.  The CDV is identified from a similar image of Private Rath from an shared album in the collection of the California Sons of Veterans. Comes w service data .
