    Notable Features:
These earrings were handmade during the Art Deco era. Composed of 14k yellow gold, the earrings feature large, beautiful Bohemian garnet stones. The inclusion of such sparkling, rare stones with their dramatic hue is an excellent example of the styles of jewelry popular during the Art Deco era, which saw aristocrats and socialites donning bold, attention grabbing jewelry to wear to Gatsby-style parties and other formal evening events. These earrings with their deep red garnet stones perfectly capture the spirit of this time.
Each earring contains a single large Bohemian garnet stone. Showcasing the deep red hue prized in this variety of stone, the stones are semi-translucent, allowing light to filter through their bodies and illuminate their stunning color. These stones were skillfully hand-cleaved into oval faceted cuts, providing the earrings with striking sparkle as light reflects from the facets. Each garnet stone rests in a 14k yellow gold multi-prong setting, the vibrant hue of the yellow gold a lovely contrast to the deeper hues of the garnet. On each earring, linear motifs extend upwards before curving around each stone, ending in scroll motifs for added elegance. Small foliate motifs adorn the bottom of each stone's setting, and each stone dangles from a diamond-shaped design with a starburst motif in the center. These lovely earrings with their sparkling stones would have been the perfect accessory at a Gatsby-style party.
The earrings are completed with 14k yellow gold posts and butterfly backings, making them suitable for pierced ears. The generous amount of yellow gold used in these earrings gives them an impressive item weight value of 0. A classic example of the Gatsby-style jewelry that was popular during the Art Deco era, these earrings would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection. Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.
    Damage:
Age appropriate wear. The butterfly backings are not a matching pair, which does not affect wear; a matching set can be purchased from your local jeweler jeweler, if desired. There is minor facet wear to one of the Bohemian garnet stones; this does not affect wear, and the stones remain secure.

    The History
The Art Deco era is famous for being the "Gatsby" or "Roaring Twenties" era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1940. Art Deco jewelry sometimes featured white gold or platinum, geometric designs, European cut diamonds, filigree, and calibre cut stones that are specifically cut to fit the design of the piece. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.
Garnets are a type of silicate mineral that have a long history of use, dating back as far as the Bronze Age where they were used in jewelry and as an abrasive. Historically, this stone has also been known as “carbuncle” and its modern name, garnet, is derived from the Latin granatus meaning “seed,” which is thought to be a reference to pomegranates. Found in almost any color imaginable, these stones are most commonly red in hue, with blue being the rarest variety and deep red the most prized. Throughout history these beautiful stones have been worn by the wealthy elite, ranging from the pharaohs of Egypt to the European nobility of the Middle ages. Today garnet continues to be a popular stone for use in jewelry, with the deepest red varieties being especially valuable and sought after.
